It's the last day of February and I am so thankful. Let this month be over. One highlight was a new discovery in the valley. Hebs and I passed the Island Market and decided to actually go in for the first time, the one down in the Island. I went in with no expectations at all and then, there they were...penny candy. Oh the joy of penny candy. Where have you been the past ten years of my life?
I filled up my little brown paper bag with sour patch kids, and sour apples and Swedish Fish. It completely brought me back to my childhood. I was instantly back in the old city library with Grandma Barbara as she fished a dime out of her purse. I would run over to the bluebird and count out eight or nine little treats to fill my sandwich bag. Running back to the library, I would find a good shelf of books and read and eat my little treats.
They also made me wish for Easter. In fact, I pulled out all of my Easter decor yesterday. I know it's a month away but I needed to lift that fuzzy yellow chicks bring and bright eggs. Every Easter, my family makes their way up to Ophir for a huge Easter Egg hunt (adults included) and dutch oven cooking. There used to be this little store in Ophir called Minnie's. It was a tiny little house up the road run by Minnie, a very old Ophir resident (one of maybe 10). We would look into the cases and buy all sorts of penny candy every time we visited.
Who wouldn't pay a penny for experiences like that? Sadly, in ten years, the price of penny candy has doubled. It's not as fun to call it two penny candy but the visit to Island Market was completely worth it. You can guarantee that I'll be back counting out little candies soon.
Is there something like that the brings you immediately back to your childhood?

I am right there with you and the penny candy! Growing up that was one treat I could usually afford! I thought it was so fun:)
I remember walking to the local corner store market with my cousins when we went to visit my grandma in New England, North Dakota. I loved how everything was in a short walking distance from her house on Main St.
good memories. maybe that is why I still can't pass up the penny candies. ever. love your new header too.
