Noon Music

I've been spending a lot of time lately with the blue hair crowd. You know what I mean, the summer snowbird senior citizens. During the summer months, they have live music at the tabernacle almost every day. For free. How could I pass up this opportunity?

Several times this last week, I have taken my lunch hour to listen to great music. I may be the youngest person in the crowd but I don't care. Today it was the Fry Street Quartet. I really enjoy this group. I think it stems back to my days at the radio station when I interviewed them for a segment. They were so nice and offered me a CD, one that I've listened to many times, great studying music.

On Saturday, Heb and I rode our bikes to the farmers market (as my brother says, we really are becoming hippies). While we were in the area, we stopped by the tabernacle for the Westminster Bell Choir. I didn't know that something like that even existed. I was fascinated by the sounds they can make with simple bells. Awesome!

Now, I've been raving about some good performances but I can't guarantee that all are that great. Honestly, one that I attended last week was not so good. It was a male singer who does opera, show tunes, religious music, country and is starting his own line of children's products. You can't appeal to everyone. Best not to try. His voice was fine, it was all good, the thing that really made me not like him all that much was that it didn't really seem like he meant what he was singing, like it was all a show. That's a big thing for me, much of the criteria for my favorite music is that it sounds like they mean what they are singing. It didn't help that he had slicked hair and a pony tail.

I think I'll keep going. If you want to tag along, let me know. We can be the two youngest people there together.
