I was reading a talk lately called "Terror, Triumph and the Wedding Feast," given by Jeffrey R. Holland. There was one line that really struck me.
A pretty groundbreaking thought for me. If I don't dream, my dreams won't ever be fulfilled. God is anxiously waiting for the chance to help."God is anxiously waiting for the chance to answer your prayers and fulfill your dreams, just as He always has. But He can’t if you don’t pray, and He can’t if you don’t dream. In short, He can’t if you don’t believe."
It's got me thinking about my dreams and what I could do to be more proactive in reaching them. One of my dreams is to create, to be an artist. I always wanted to create, even when I was a little girl. Back in college, I felt like I needed to select a major that was academic and impressive. It all shifted when I went back to school in something that had a deep design and creative aspect. Letting myself dream helped me to move my life in a direction that added a lot of happiness to my life.
Needless to say, I love to see creativity at work. It's inspiring to see what people have created, and fun too.
Every summer for years, Heb and I went to Summerfest together back in Logan. It's this big arts festival that brings artists, musicians and performers in from all of the country. There on Tabernacle Square, we would walk around and see. I looked forward to it every year. It was always inspiring and motivating.
Last weekend, we went down to the Reston Arts Festival. You know that Heb and I love a good street festival. We even braved some rain to see it all. We're hoping to teach Leo to appreciate the power of good art.
There was some of the most unique jewelry that I'd ever seen. Glass artists were few, which was a little disappointing. I did get some inspiration for my studio time this week.

And it doesn't hurt that we topped it off with a trip to Potbelly's. Their shakes are the best. I think Leo agrees.
P.S. Leo's grown out of 2 pairs of sandals this past month, sandals that I'd hoped would last all summer. I'm looking forward to his upcoming doctor appointment to see how much he's grown. He is becoming quite the tall boy.
P.P.S. He still hasn't stopped pushing around cars all day long. We went out to dinner on Friday and he pushed three matchbox cars around for an hour and barely made a peep. Who is this baby?
