Really?

I ran onto this job posting for a hotel in town. Perhaps it will help all of you that live outside of Logan to get an idea of what job hunting is actually like here.

Recently, MSNBC did a big interview with Logan's mayor highlighting the low unemployment rate in Logan and asking how it happened. Logan's mayor said that we were conservative and prepared for the economic downturn, I say that is a joke. I think a much better statistic would be, who is underemployed in Logan. Take this job posting for example.

One position: Temporary, 7/1/09-6/1/10
International marketing, advertising and sales.

Duties: contact foreign travel agents and tour groups, website translation, motel front desk clerk duties (answering phone, taking reservations, customer service, cleaning). Phone and computer skills, high degree of fluency in German, French and English required (send documentation and proof of proficiency), cashier experience, college degree.

Did you read that, fluency in German, French and English and a college degree? Wow.

For all of these things, with no benefits, what is the pay?

$8.50 per hour

I love Logan.

Hey Gentri you are not alone on finding/landing a job that doesn't pay all that great. Have you looked on providentliving.org? There are about 117 job postings on there. They aren't all great but there are some on there with better pay than $8.50/hr.

Awesome! I want to learn all those languages so I can maybe, one day, hope to earn 8.50 an hour. Thank you Logan for letting me know my dreams are possible!
